Meta-Ghost: The Breaking Show is a 3D Roguelite action game. Set in a cyberpunk-inspired world, the game offers thrilling, fast-paced combat while unraveling a thought-provoking cyberpunk narrative.
[World Setting]
As society veers towards a troubling path in the future, it becomes tightly controlled by capital. The dark underbelly of society and the depths of human depravity expand under immense survival pressures. To combat the relentless encroachment of intelligent machines on social positions, humans resort to augmenting themselves with cybernetic implants, empowering them to compete on equal footing.
The Breaking Show serves as a window into this dystopian future. In this reality show, countless individuals risk their lives for the illusory chance of ascending the social ladder, facing off against the cold and metallic enemies with their flesh and blood bodies enhanced by cybernetic implants. However, this seemingly grim and surreal competition is orchestrated by a hidden mastermind lurking deep within the realms of the network. It seeks to exploit the contestants, using their involvement to disrupt this future that has already fallen into a misguided trajectory.
In The Breaking Show, you can assume the role of a lower-class human on the verge of being eclipsed by the relentless march of time: Taisuke, a radiation-infected mercenary with a limited lifespan; Jean, a streetwise thug from the gritty alleys of Saint Oved burdened by physical developmental delays; or Yan, a mysterious hacker possessing a delicate balance of gentleness and competence... Immerse yourself in this wildly popular livestreamed reality show, whether driven by personal desires or fueled by noble ideals. Fight! Break through! Until you reach the chilling climax, seizing the ultimate victory that "it" eagerly awaits!
[In-Match Construct]
Drivers: Similar to "drivers" for "hardware" in reality, Drivers in the game are software that enable the normal functioning of Prosthetics called Prosthetics. Installing different Drivers bestows various effects on the contestants' augmented bodies. The game offers five types of Drivers provided by the event organizers and sponsors: Foundation Industries, Rise Technologies, Awaken Energy, Romani Biosciences, and Mirage Media. By selecting different Drivers, contestants can shape their unique gameplay styles, significantly influencing their combat approach. For instance, activating the Foundation Industries Driver "Chain Lightning" grants a 40% chance for attacks to unleash lightning chains, allowing players to strategize around this skill.
Fusion Drivers: When you collect a substantial number of Drivers, you can utilize a special console during the event to combine six Drivers of different types (up to two colors) and acquire a powerful " Fusion Drivers." Even after the combination, the effects of the original Drivers remain intact. Furthermore, the effects of the Fusion Drivers are determined by the types and quantities of the Drivers used in the combination.
Relics: They are items left behind by defeated opponents or enemies. Relics often provide attribute bonuses, additional rewards, or advantages beyond combat. Some unique relics interact with the acquired Drivers. Relics are categorized by their qualities, ranging from Type I (green) to Type IV (orange).
Room Selection: In the match, players can choose their preferred routes and see all the rooms along those routes. This includes Fate Rooms where random events occur, which present higher risks as well as greater rewards.
[Out-of-Match Development]
Operating System: The Operating System serves as a shared skill tree for all contestants. Upgrading entries in the skill tree allows for stat growth such as attack power and maximum HP, as well as gaining special abilities like resurrection chances and increased shop refreshes. The skill tree of the Operating System unlocks additional tabs as the progression in the Breaking Show advances.
Weapon Modifications: Currently, each character has only one weapon, but it can be modified to change the contestant's basic combat style and various skills, leading to different playstyles. Each character has four categories of modifications, typically corresponding to normal attacks, heavy attacks, evasions, and ultimate skills. Modifications have three tiers, and one option can be chosen per tier. Once a modification is unlocked, the remaining modifications in the same tier are also unlocked and can be freely switched outside of the matches.
Prosthetic Armaments: Similar to equipment systems in other video games, the Prosthetics have random secondary attributes and effects, and all Prosthetics can be upgraded and strengthened. By challenging specific difficulty levels of single-player/team stages and defeating bosses within them, random Prosthetic drops can be obtained. They range in quality with indications from green, blue, purple, to orange. Starting from blue quality, each Prosthetic piece will have one random effect. Starting from purple quality, Prosthetic s will have set bonuses, divided into ENH Implants bonuses (4-piece set) and Core Implants bonuses (2-piece set). These set bonuses help you form your playstyle more quickly within the game. Orange-quality sets also include exclusive Prosthetic sets tailored to specific contestants, which often provide powerful enhancements. For example, Taisuke's "Minagiri" set extends the duration of the buff every time a heavy attack is used during the ultimate skill buff period.
[Game Modes]
Single-player Mode: Known as the "Breaking Show," this mode offers a complete single-player storyline experience and various event difficulties. In this mode, players need to plan their optimal route, overcome challenges one after another, and ultimately defeat the boss to unlock the next difficulty level. Unlocking higher difficulties grants access to more team members, more maps, more types of enemies, and the revelation of the ultimate secret!
Online Co-op Mode: Known as the "Group Match," this is a special event organized by the game's officials. Currently supporting up to three players, Group Match can be formed through matchmaking, inviting friends, or entering private rooms. After completing the 3rd, 7th, and 10th rounds of the Group Match, three Popularity Gates will appear. Players can choose and enter one of the gate to increase the Popularity, which in turn increases the rewards from defeating bosses, raising the enemy's strength, and introducing peculiar interruptions known as "Field Interference" to the matches.
